Tales of teaching practice week 2 phase 2 part 2
Day 7 : Observations and Problem Solving
20.06.2024 Thursday
Today marked the seventh day of my teaching practice. I arrived at school by 8:45 a.m., ready for my allotted period during the second period.
During this period, our principal cum my concern teacher, Preetha Ma'am, came to observe my class. I conducted a problem-solving session on systems of equations, focusing on two key problems: one based on capacity and the other on age. The students found it challenging to understand and translate the problems into equations, so I broke down each problem into smaller parts and explained every step. Despite their initial struggles, I felt satisfied seeing their gradual understanding and progress.
The age-related problem was somewhat familiar to the students, but I made sure to explain it from the basics to ensure everyone could follow. The detailed explanations took more time than expected, and I couldn't finish within the period. I had to give the follow-up activity after the bell rang.
During the third period, Preetha Ma'am helped us correct our lesson plans. By the end of the fourth period, we went to serve the noon meal. The rest of my day involved substitution duties in classes 8G, 8D, and 9C. Each class presented its own set of challenges, but it was a good opportunity to manage different groups of students and adapt to varying classroom dynamics.
The day concluded with the national anthem and line duty at 3:15 p.m. By 3:45 p.m., we left the school premises.
Overall, it was a busy and challenging day. I felt a mix of stress and fulfillment, especially with the observation and ensuring the students grasped the concepts. The experience taught me the importance of time management and patience in teaching complex topics.
