Tales from Teaching Practice week 10
Day 46
Day 46 brought a break in the routine as the school observed an official holiday due to the festive celebrations of Pongal and Magarevilaku.
Day 47
Day 47 of my teaching practice at VPS Malankara HSS Venganoor commenced with the teachers' prayer at 8:30 a.m.
My allotted period was the second period in 9C provided an opportunity to introduce the concept of lateral surface area of a prism. We delved into cases involving a triangular prism and a rectangular prism. Students grasped that the lateral surface area is the product of the prism's base perimeter and height.
While discussing generalizations, the bell rang, prompting me to postpone the problem-solving session for the next class. After noon, I participated in the noon meal serving and took on substitution duty at 8K during the 6th period.
The day concluded with line duty at 3:15 p.m., following the national anthem. Leaving the school premises by 3:30 p.m., it was a day filled with exploring the practical aspects of lateral surface areas and engaging students in dynamic learning.
Day 48
Day 48 of teaching practice at VPS Malakara HSS Venganoor e began with the teachers' prayer at 8:30 a.m. My allotted period in the second hour with 9C provided an opportunity to build on the previous day's concept with a problem-solving session. Students seamlessly recalled and connected the concept of lateral surface area to practical applications.
Post-class, I took on substitution duty in 8C during the third period. Afternoon activities included serving the noon meal and another substitution duty, this time in 5B. Spending time with the younger students was a delightful experience, although they presented their unique challenges.
At 3:15 p.m., after the national anthem, line duty awaited. We concluded the day's activities, leaving the school premises at 3:30 p.m. It was a day of reinforcing concepts, engaging with various grade levels, and managing the dynamic learning environment.
Day 49
Day 49 of my teaching practice at VPS Malankara HSS Venganoor unfolded as I reached the school at 8:30 a.m., participating in the teachers' prayer. The day involved substitution duties in 8C and 7D during the second and fourth periods, respectively.
My allotted period, during the 5th in 9C, focused on the concept of the total surface area of prisms. Building on their prior knowledge of the lateral surface area (LSA) of prisms, I explained that the total surface area comprises LSA plus the area of the two bases. The students, already adept at calculating areas of various polygons, grasped the concept swiftly.
Post-class, at 3:15 p.m., after the national anthem, line duty awaited. Wrapping up the day's activities, I left the school premises by 3:30 p.m. It was a day filled with insights into the implementation of mathematical concepts, making the learning process smoother for the students.
Day 50
Day 50 marked a significant milestone in my teaching practice at VPS Malankara HSS Venganoor. Starting the day at 8:30 a.m., my allotted period was during the 6th period. A unique opportunity arose as my concern teacher Mrs Sajeeshma M'aam suggested a class switch for observation.
With PT sir's permission, I took his class during the 4th period, and he took mine during the 6th period. The session focused on a problem-solving approach to the surface area of prisms. Explaining the topic, students visualized and interpreted geometrical shapes in three dimensions. Actively engaging in solving real-world problems related to painting and cost estimation, they showcased their understanding.
Post-class, I received positive feedback from my teacher, making the session even more rewarding. After lunch, I dedicated time to working on the design for my achievement test. At 3:15 p.m., following the national anthem, line duty awaited. Wrapping up the day's activities, I left the school premises by 3:30 p.m. It was a day of collaborative teaching and hands-on problem-solving experiences.
