Tales from Teaching Practice week 9

 Day 41

On the forty-first day of my teaching practice at VPS Malangara HSS Venganoor, the journey continued with a problem-solving session on the "Absolute Value of a Number" during the third period with 9C. As the complexity of questions increased, students faced challenges in understanding and applying absolute value properties.

I guided them through solving equations with multiple terms, fostering the construction of mathematical proofs and insightful discussions on the truth or falsity of inequalities.

Post-class, I took on substitution duty at 7F, and after lunch, with permission from the headmistress for conducting a conscientization program addressing the "Influence of Social Media on Secondary School Students" for selected 8th-grade students.

The day wrapped up with line duty at 3:15 p.m., following the national anthem. Leaving the school premises by 3:30 p.m., it was a day of overcoming challenges in the dynamic learning environment.

Day 42 : An introduction to Prisms

Day 42 of my teaching practice at VPS Malankara HSS Venganoor marked the beginning of a new chapter – "Prisms." Commencing at 8:30 a.m., my allotted period was during the second hour with 9C.
I adopted an interactive approach, introducing the concept of prisms by discussing 2D figures and their extension into 3D objects using a video presentation. This method allowed students to effectively explore the transformation process. After grasping the concept, students successfully identified prisms with parallel and congruent bases connected by rectangular faces.
To enhance engagement, I integrated real-life examples of polygonal prisms, prompting students to identify corresponding prisms. The class was actively involved, and it was gratifying to witness their successful construction of knowledge on prisms and their types.
Later in the day, a conscientization program from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. received approval. With the class teacher's permission, we organized the computer lab, arranged seating, and set up necessary equipment. The program focused on raising awareness about the influence of social media, capturing the students' attentive participation.
Post-program, line duty at 3:15 p.m. concluded the day's activities. Leaving the school premises by 3:30 p.m., it was a day of educational exploration and promoting awareness among students.

Day 43 :

Day 43 marked my continuous teaching journey at VPS Malankara HSS Venganoor. Beginning the day at 8:30 a.m., I participated in the teachers' prayer, with my allotted period during the second in 9 C.

Introducing the concept of the volume of a prism, I ensured students understood volume as the measure of space in a 3D object. A video presentation aided in developing their ability to think in three dimensions. Exploring various combinations of base dimensions and height, students grasped how these factors influence the overall volume. I emphasized that volume is the product of base area and height.

After the noon meal serving and with no substitution duties, I utilized the free time to prepare the design for my achievement test. The day concluded with line duty at 3:15 p.m. and leaving the school premises by 3:30 p.m. It was a productive day.

Day 44 :

Day 44 of my teaching practice at VPS Malankara HSS Venganoor unfolded with the teachers' prayer at 8:30 a.m. My allotted period was during the third hour with 9C, where I conducted a problem-solving session on the volume of prisms.

I presented two problems of average difficulty, guiding students through complex problem-solving related to geometric shapes, volume, and water displacement. The session aimed to enhance their problem-solving skills and included discussions on unit conversion. During this period, my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Biba BR, observed the class.

Post-class, during the 5th period, I took on substitution duty at 6K. The school was abuzz with activity as rehearsals and practice for the upcoming Annual Day filled the atmosphere with excitement.

At 3:15 p.m., after the national anthem, the day concluded. Leaving the school premises by 3:30 p.m., it was a day of engaging problem-solving sessions and immersion into the lively preparations for the Annual Day.

Day 45 ; Annual Day

Day 45 marked a unique experience in my teaching practice at VPS Malankara HS Venganoor. Starting the day at 9:30 a.m., the school's Annual Day was the highlight. The morning began with the UP section's celebrations held in the school hall, where we were assigned discipline duty.

During lunch, we organized classrooms, ensuring students had a smooth lunch experience, organizing them by sections and guiding them to receive and enjoy their meals. The same process repeated during tea time.

The official program commenced at 5:00 p.m., with the chief guests arriving on time. After the inauguration, the cultural programs of the HS section took center stage. We remained at the school until 9:00 p.m., immersed in the vibrant celebrations of the Annual Day. It was a day of coordination, discipline, and joyous cultural festivities.
