Tales of Teaching Practice phase 2 week 3
Day 9 of My Teaching Practice
24.06.2024 Monday
Today was the ninth day of my teaching practice at Karthika Thirunal VHSS for Girls, Manacaud. I reached the school at 8:45 a.m. My allotted periods were the second and sixth periods.
During the second period, I conducted a problem-solving session on pairs of equations. The students worked on translating word problems into systems of linear equations and solving them. They were engaged and curious, especially with a challenging question on place value. After some discussion, they grasped how to translate numbers using digits. I was pleased that they asked questions and I could clear their doubts.
I had substitution duty in class 6D during the fourth period. In the middle of the period, I went for noon meal serving duty. After lunch, I went to my allotted class during the sixth period and conducted another problem-solving session on the same topic. This time, the questions were simpler, focusing on basic mathematical operations like division. The students learned to break down problems into smaller parts and verify their answers.
At 3:15 p.m., after the national anthem and line duty, we signed the attendance register and left the school by 3:30 p.m.
Overall, it was a productive and engaging day.
Day 10 of My Teaching Practice
25.06.2024 Tuesday
I was on leave due to severe fever.
Day 11 of My Teaching Practice
26.06.2024 Wednesday
Today was the 11th day of my teaching practice. I reached the school at 8:45 a.m. and had substitution duty in class 10B during the first period and class 10C during the second period. My allotted period was during the 4th period in class 9G.A rally was organised in the school ground on anti-drug day.
I taught an introductory lesson on irrational numbers from the chapter "New Numbers" using a concept attainment model. I started with an orientation and provided examples, both positive and negative, allowing students to generate their own hypotheses. They compared attributes and created definitions based on these examples.
In the second phase, I gave them more unlabeled examples to test their understanding. They successfully identified positive and negative examples and reached the term "irrational numbers." The students actively participated and understood the concept well. As a follow-up, they classified numbers into rational and irrational categories.
After lunch, I had substitution duty in class 9A. At 3:15 p.m., the bell rang, and after the national anthem and line duty, we left the school by 3:45 p.m.
Overall, it was a productive and satisfying day.
