Tales of Teaching Practice phase 2 week 5

Day 19 of My Teaching Practice

08.07.2024                                                                             Monday

Today was the 19th day of my teaching practice. I reached the school at 8:45 a.m. The school was busy preparing for a special event. We found out there was an inauguration ceremony scheduled for the afternoon, featuring the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi.

During the second period, in class 9G, I conducted a problem-solving session on special operations from the chapter on multiplication identities. I guided the students through word problems, helping them identify and analyze patterns in the remainders and products of numbers. By the end of the session, they could construct mathematical proofs on their own.

During the third period, a drill was conducted to prepare the students for the afternoon program. At noon, I helped serve the meal.

In the afternoon, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IndianOil) held the Swachhta Pakhwada-2024 event at the school, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and a green environment. Suresh Gopi administered the Swachhta Pledge and highlighted the impact of the Swachh Bharat initiative. He presented saplings to student volunteers and distributed hygiene kits with sanitizers, face masks, hand wash, and sanitary napkins.

After the event, there were no more classes. The bell rang for the national anthem, and after performing line duty and signing the attendance register, we left the school premises by 3:45 p.m.

Overall, it was a productive day that combined teaching with an important community event.

Day 20 of My Teaching Practice

09.07.2024                                                                             Tuesday

Today was the 20th day of my teaching practice. I reached the school at 8:45 a.m. I didn't have a scheduled class, but I was assigned substitution duty in my allotted class during the third period.

During the third period, I covered the topic of number curiosities from the unit on multiplication identities. I guided the students to identify the curious properties of number products using algebra. We explored pairs of two-digit numbers and their reverse counterparts that result in the same product. I walked the students through proving this condition, using slides to visually represent the number patterns and their underlying secrets.

In the middle of the fourth period, I served noon meals. During the fifth period, I had substitution duty in class 7D. Later, some teachers assigned us the task of organizing prizes for the students who won various Sahitya competitions held for Basheer Day.

At 3:15 p.m., after the national anthem, we performed line duty. After signing the register, we left the school premises by 3:45 p.m.

Overall, it was a productive day focused on teaching and school activities.

Day 21 of My Teaching Practice

10.07.2024                                                                         Wednesday

Today was the 21st day of my teaching practice. I reached the school at 8:45 a.m. The first and second periods were taken up by an assembly where prizes were distributed to students who won competitions held for Basheer Day.

During the third period, I covered substitution duty in class 9F. My allotted class was during the fourth period in class 9G, where I taught number curiosities from the multiplication identities unit. I conducted an activity-based session where students worked in groups with activity cards containing calendars and multiplication tables.

The activity aimed to help students discover consistent numerical patterns. I illustrated two patterns:

1. In a calendar, the difference between the products of diagonal pairs in a square is always 7.

2. In a multiplication table, the difference between the sum of the diagonals is always 1.

Students were actively engaged and were able to complete an independent activity by the end of the session.

Afterwards, I served the noon meal and had substitution duty in class 9B during the sixth period. At 3:15 p.m., after the national anthem and line duty, we signed the register and left the school by 3:45 p.m.

Overall, it was an engaging and productive day.
